Season: 2021-22
Reclinosaurs vs Red Star 50s
Reclinosaurs cup dreams came crashing to earth in a scrappy game at BAWA. Following a first ever win last weekend and the abandonment of the controversial ‘Christmas Pudding’ formation, confidence pre-match was high. However the squad was paper thin with numerous walking wounded and when Phil’s achillies gave way 20 minutes in, the uphill struggle began in earnest. RedStar pressed with good energy throughout and whilst the Saurs had the occasional moment of quality, there were a lot of mistakes in between. In a first half of few chances, Redstar took the lead when #Talisman looped a header over JT in goal for an OG following a corner. A soft penalty was dispatched into the corner and RedStar were well in command. The Saurs improved a bit in the second half, huffed and puffed but created few decent chances. A third RedStar goal was disallowed for a foul on the keeper. In the final minute Russ scored a fine consolation for the Saurs, following a great move down the right, but too little too late. Game played in good spirit, good luck to RedStar in the semi finals.
Red Star’s cup dreams have only just taken flight, expectations were low and the fixture secretary was notably reluctant to embrace future glory. The welcome signing mid week of a decent goalie and some extra quality in midfield saw the 50s put in their most accomplished performance so far. Reclinosaurs were neat and tidy, but Red Star’s backline was solid and dealt well with any threat. Nudging into the lead from a corner saw the Reds 1 up at half time and a penalty box sandwich resulted in a spot kick that doubled the lead earlyy in the second half.. Ever eager to entertain the crowd, Red Star contrived a calamity to let the home team back in at the death, but regained composure to see the game out. Good game in a good spirit. This bus is rolling…
Reclinosaurs vs St Brendan’s RFC OB
A really well contested game at BAWA with little to choose between the two sides. Reclinosaurs edged it in terms of possession and chances created, but St B’s were competitive throughout and in the end the fact that they only had bare 11 was a significant factor in the result. The Saurs took the lead when Demmy headed so inaccurately into the ground that the force of the bounce looped the ball over the keeper. They added a second when the unsighted B’s keeper could only parry Gaffers’ cross into the net. Both sides had good penalty shouts rejected in a tight second half of few chances. Jase wasted a one on one when clean through and the B’s keeper made a great save from Gaffers’ long range effort. In the final minute the B’s striker finally got free but blazed over. Great effort from both sets of players and a game played in good spirit.
Easton Monday vs Clevedon Utd Vets
EASTON MONDAY MATCH REPORT
Clevedon began by playing a high line and a ball came in over the top after some neat ‘diamond-esque’ interplay, and Arron latched onto it and had acres of time to hit it over the onrushing keeper. 1-0 inside the first minute. The second goal came after about 20 minutes with Arron chasing down a lost cause and heading the ball past their last defender and their defender kicked Arron in the head. Stonewall Pen. John converted neatly into the bottom left corner. A 3rd came with the keeper saving from first Morgs and then Jamie before it fell to Arron who smashed it low and hard through the bodies. 3-0 at half time. The game really should have been out of sight but Clevedon then scored two. First a short corner that wasn’t closed down quickly enough and a slow looping ‘cross’ found its way over Stu and into the back of the net. Their second came from Monday’s getting too comfortable at the back and them closing us down. Arron (in goal by this point) made a save low to his right, only for their onrushing striker to get to the rebound first. 3-2 felt uncomfortable but it was still ours to lose. We then got our 4th straight after their 2nd with a shot coming in only to be spilled by their keeper – and Jamie latching onto it first. 4-2. A good all-around performance across the pitch. The game was played in a good spirit.
