Season: 2020-21

Athletico Lockleaze vs Easton Cowboys

Atheltico Report:

Hi Russell – we lost 10-3, tough match and we were slow to get started. Second half we were much improved but gap had been established by then.

Our player picked up an elbow to the head that split his eye and no subs available to come back on at that point so he dropped his side to 10 players also for the last 5 mins.

Ashley Vets vs Banjo Munchenbadback

Banjo Report:
Banjo played well and took the points from a weather affected fixture.

Banjo had chances throughout and deserved their 3 points but a late 2nd from Ashley gave a tense last 10 more minutes.

Ashley Report@

A terrible footballing performance from us, in difficult weather conditions. We lost the game 3-2; the score could have been worse, to be honest. Well done to Banjo

Nailsea Vets 45s vs Chew Magna 45s

Nailsea Report:

This was one of those mornings when you looked out the curtains and thought why do we still do this at our age? The driving rain and blustery wind might have been a real spoiler but credit to both sides for a really competitive and fairly fought game. Chew got off the mark with a penalty after 10 minutes (in the box?….. maybe just) and then had a long spell of dominance. On the half hour and against the run of play Nailsea levelled after Alex Plenty squared to Lee Cogan who evened the score. This gave Nailsea an injection of confidence and the remainder of the first half was evenly contested and Nailsea were unlucky not to nick the lead as Darren Jones hit a looping shot from the edge of the box which the Chew keeper athletically tipped onto the bar. The game remained relatively tight in the second half with neither keeper particularly troubled but 25 minutes in a long range Chew shot skidded off the ground which Nailsea keeper Lee couldn’t gather leaving a close range tap in for Chew to steal the lead again. Nailsea continued to look for an equalizer but didn’t create enough to trouble the Chew defence and with 10 minutes remaining a 3rd for Chew sealed their victory. The game was played in a really good spirit and it was good to see so many damp Chew players back at Sawyers for a post match drink despite the wet conditions and lack of showers!

Chew Report:

After a shaky start Chew Assumed control and Shortland was bought down and M.Smith slotted home the penalty. Nailsea worked their way back into the game and scored a well taken equaliser, before Chew once again began to assert themselves with chances falling to both sides with great saves from both keepers to keep it 1-1 at half time. From then on Chew took control, Keen in goal was dominant in the air and the defence was commanding, the midfield battles were being won and Chew’s strikers were a constant threat. After a fizzing long range shot was parried by the keeper R.Smith calmly side-footed it into the corner to make it 2-1. Chew continued to boss the game, and Shortland sealed it after a clever through ball from Molter, holding off the defender to beat the keeper with a composed finish. This was one of Chew’s best performances for a while and needed to be against a strong well organised Nailsea team. Despite the weather the game was played in a competitive but good spirit.

Dynamos vs Warmley Rangers

Dynamos Report:

A match which ended up being played at our home ground on the 3G due to the horrendous weather. Covid means no access to the changing rooms and this was not a day you wanted to be outside in your boxers! Dynamos started really well moving the ball around the pitch with a high degree of accuracy. We did open the scoring fairly early on but Warmley were very much in the game at this stage and making it hard for us to break their line. However some great finishing saw us several goals to the good at half time. In the second half a combination of us moving the ball around so well and the awful weather seemed to result in Warmley tiring. We also managed to score some superb goals from outside the box…in fact every shot seemed to end up in the top corner! Thanks to Warmley for a great game played in the right spirit.

Red Star 45’s vs Shipham AFC

Red Star Report:
In truly miserable conditions Red Star continued their bright start to the season with a comprehensive victory over Shipham. Red Star took a while to get going, but as a deluge turned into a torrent so the floodgates eventually opened and Red Star were 5-0 at half time. As mild hypothermia set in it got tricky to remember all the goals, but the woodwork shook several times in between emphatic headed finishes, a dribbly deflection, a cooly slotted one on one and a super slider.

Shipham refused to give up and pulled a couple back as Red Star adjusted to slope, wind and injuries, but the chances kept coming and more goals followed, crowned by a long range power blaster from Gareth. 7-3 at the end, credit to all for dealing with the hostile elements. Good game for the spectator, played in the right spirit.

Recliners FC vs HC Voyager FC

Match report Recliners:

The weather was awful, but both sides turned up determined to play football. Recliners dominated the possession throughout but were wasteful in front of goal and Voyager defended superbly. As a result the game remained tight until the last five minutes after a great Voyager goal direct from a free kick made it 3-2. Recliners added a couple right at the death, but this was a game that really showed how putting the ball in the net is really what the game is all about. Recliners goals from Demmy, German, Josh (2) and an unforgettable first time finish from player manager Biccy near the end. Game played in an excellent spirit, barely a foul in the game, a proper Corinthian match, thanks to Voyager for being a great opponent.

Match report Voyager:

So it rained heavily all weekend including Sunday. Yes we all thought it would be called off but bizarrely and in hindsight wonderfully the game was on! Although Recliners were a good dominent passing side with strong players we stayed in the game with solid defending which resulted in us going in at halftime just 2.1 down thanks to an excellent breakaway goal by Gaz. The second half saw the opposite quickly take a further lead but was again reduced by a direct free kick from yours truly! Goal of the season contender if i say so myself!! We remained in contention until the last 10 minutes when Recliners killed the game by 2 quick goals. A great game played in a true Corinithian spirit with few fouls and good will all round. Good luck Recliners for the rest of the season
