HC Voyager FC vs Rapid Dementia
Rapid Report:
Manager Gregory had his usual selection headache with 16 plus players at his disposal. Unfortunately the news that he was starting proved too much for Clive ‘Costner’ Slocombe, and his back went whilst jumping for joy in the warm up!
Rapid were delighted to find themselves playing on the number 1 pitch at Frys but once again started slowly, unable to get behind Voyagers back line. The breakthrough came when Justin Dowling converted the first, firing low into the corner. RC Voyager equalised with a clinical finish after the Rapid back line left keeper Presely exposed but soon the lead was restored after Darren James cross field ball found the feet of Sam Gurner who rolled back the years to finish with ease. Two more goals gave Rapid a 4 – 1 lead at half time.
The first half also saw Rusty Griffiths remove himself from the pitch due to injury, proving the point that at our age, 16 on match day is about the right number!
Unfortunately Voyager also felt the injury toll mount and despite substitute options of their own, played with 10 for much of the second half.
Rapid clocked up the goals throughout the second half Justin Dowling (3), Sam Guner (2), Sam Morton (2), Jase Cutis (2), and Darren James (1) gave Rapid an eventual 10 – 2 victory.
Dynamos vs Frenchay Legends
Dynamos Report:
Second round of the cup and another home match. Happily the weather was much improved this week! Frenchay started off competitively and it was clear this wasn’t going to be an easy game for Dynamos. Pretty even for the first 20 minutes as both teams figured each other out. The first goal was always going to be an important one in this game and it was Dynamos that got it. Some more clinical finishing and a fine penalty from Adam saw us go into the break a few goals up. The second half was also a fairly close affair. Joe scored a delightful goal with his kids in attendance! Credit to Frenchay who never stopped playing and got a goal they deserved. We wish them all the best for their season. A hard fought match played in the right spirit.
Lion FC vs Red Star 35s
Lion Report:
Late winner for Red Star and weak squad for us due to Welsh lock down, have lost 4 players that live the other side of the bridge :o(
Red Star Report:
Having both benefited from a bye in the first round, both Lion and Red Star came into this tie chomping at the bit for a taste of cup glory. It was an evenly-matched encounter from the start and it was the goalies who helped break the deadlock, with Red Star first presenting Lion with a tap-in to take the lead, and then returning the favour a few minutes late by failing to clear trouble on the edge of the box and giving Tom Sewell the opportunity to equalise, albeit from a tight angle. It was tit-for-tat for the remainder of the game, first Lion took the lead with a strong finish, but with twenty minutes to go Red Star levelled things up and capitalising on that momentum were able to continue piling on the pressure and score a third. It was one of those games which could have easily gone the other way, but it’s Red Star who look forward to a QF appearance in the cup. I want to thank Lion FC for being excellent opposition to play against but also very Corinthian in the way they go about things – I offered them a walkover in Sept when we couldn’t put a team together for this fixture and they graciously decided it was better to rearrange so that both teams could play more football.
