Background:

Redland Ramblers evolved from the original Redland Rangers team that played so called ‘proper football’ in the late 70’s/early 80’s. After disbanding in the mid 80’s many players carried on playing 5 a side together for many years. They played a friendly 11 a side game Old ‘uns against Young ‘uns in 1995/1996 and about the same time heard about the birth of the Bristol Casuals League. The league was founded by the legendary Harry Mottram. His children attended Henleaze Infants School as did the children of the not so legendary Nobby Nowland. Redland Ramblers was formed in 1996 and joined the casuals League in its 2nd season. After winning the league in the 1st 2 years when most of us were in our late 30’s we have enjoyed a casual, relaxing decline in our speed, skill, ability, memory and continence ever since. Many of the original squad, now in our late 50s/early 60s still play but are helped along by our younger contingent.

UPDATE….

The club was near to folding in 2018 until Bruce volunteered (or was he coerced?) to take over the reins. He was able to bring in a whole raft of new recruits who appeared to have a far greater understanding of how the great game of Association Football should be played. What’s more the brains seemed to work in tandem with the legs and other body parts (not the arms of course). The start of a new dawn! At the end of an undefeated 2018/2019 season we look forward to a new bit of silverware in the imaginary clubhouse. Onwards and upwards!

We enjoy touring every year. A visit to our club website www.redlandramblers.net and a look at our Tour Reports will give you an idea of the fun and games we have together off the pitch.

The first year of Dynamos was 1988, the year on our badge. The club was founded by college mates who were studying Tourism at Bristol Polytechnic; Dai and Tony (plus others). These founding fathers entered the team into some local friendlies and looked for a league that they could enter. A league was found and games ensued; and the first incarnation of was christened ‘Dynamo Tourismo’ (a nod to the University course which brought this band of merry men together).

This was the late 80s/early 90s with a group of mates in their early twenties driven purely by their love of the beautiful game; resources were in short supply, namely kit! The club begged and borrowed and managed to get hold of a kit that was the same as the Belarus national kit. This prompted a name change to ‘Dynamo Belarus.’ Around this time the club entered the Bristol Casuals League, a home for teams looking for an organised league, but without the formality (and also a place for teams getting a little more ‘mature’).

The club had several places it called home at this stage; The Lawns near Cribbs, Pill, St Anne’s to name a few. And around 2005 the club changed and dropped the Belarus to be known just as Dynamos. We managed to get a sponsor for our shirt thanks to Tel, who worked for a local cabin hire firm. Badger became the manager for a three-year stint to enact his vision.

But players started getting old and retiring, numbers dwindled and training was sporadic. Happily a new generation came in spearheaded by Mike H. We got a new kit; it was a Nike one; seriously posh! A cup semi-final followed in 2018/19, Dynamos falling short of cup glory by a single goal conceded in extra time. Finally, after many years clinging on to our Division 2 status the club finally dropped down to the third tier, albeit in a season which ended up being cut short by Covid.

With numbers falling and the future of the club in doubt, 2020/21 brought a merger with Trojans Vets and ensured the continuing legacy of Dynamos.

The team changed their name to Filton High FC in the 2014-2015 season in respect to the now demolished Filton High School. Background:

Larry Steventon founded Lion Vets in 2014. Larry retired from regular Saturday football in May 2014 after playing for 37 consecutive seasons. Instantly regretting his decision he decided to form a veterans team the very next day! Lion Veterans were born. Many old war horses have returned to the fray and dusted their boots off to make a return to action. Rich Burge and his brother Lee, Dave Bennett, Russell Lee, Pete Castles, Kris Soni and Nick (Killer) Blackman to name but a few, all enjoying the Bristol Corinthians League. The Vets maintain close links with its parent club Lion FC so hopefully as players progress in years there will be a steady flow to ensure the club will be around for a few years to come.
