Pill Utd vs Filton High Vets
Match Reports
Filton Report:
With dew on the grass & some early autumn sun in the air a great cup match was in the offing. This fixture also happened to be the reverse of the league fixture from a fortnight ago, and it lived up to the billing. The game started competitively, with Filton probing through some speculative early efforts. That said, Pill Utd raced into an early lead with some pretty decent finishing from their number 13. Who knew Steve Stone was still playing!
Pill looked quite comfortable going into half time, but as the cliche goes, it was definitely a game of two halves. Be it the sending off for Pill or the much-improved performance by Filton; the game looked like it was heading towards a nervy last 10 minutes & possibly even penalties as Filton took complete control & clawed their way back to 5-3, with 2 very well taken headers from corners as well as a confidently converted penalty. Arguably on a different day & with goal-line technology it could & should have gone to 5-4. Pill went on & put the game to bed with a well finished breakaway goal in the last 2 minutes to make it 6-3.
No doubt Pill Utd will be incredibly disappointed & probably quite embarrassed by the actions of their number 12, rightly sent off for an awfully cynical foul after having persistently tested the referee’s patience from minute 1. A sour note on what was largely a well mannered & competitive cup game.
There are a large number of games left this season and hopefully for other opponents, Pill’s number 12 will rediscover the Corinthian spirit & values the Casual’s league is meant to be built on.
Good luck to Pill on their cup run.
