Red Star 35s vs Reclinosaurs

This was a really good game despite the heavy pitch and a fair result overall. Reclinosaurs experienced a ‘new manager bounce’ in the first half, with Steve stepping up as Mike took referee duties, the real official having called in sick with a hangover. The Saurs played some great possession football, taking the lead when Edd lobbed the keeper after latching on to a defence-splitting pass from the oldest man on the pitch Tony M. Unusually for us we barely conceded a chance before the break and went in one up. We expected a response from Red Star and sure enough it came. They had much the better of the  second half, drilling in the equalizer with about 20 to go and creating several other opportunities without ever really testing Dan in goal. Our left back Si came closest to winning it for Red Star, somehow clearing his own header off the line and over the bar when it seemed an OG was inevitable. Robi almost won it for us with a free kick late on, but in the end honors even was about right. Game was played in great spirit throughout with hardly a foul in the game. Good luck Red Star for the run in.

Red Star 35s vs Thornbury Town Vets

Red Star 35s: Another tough morning for Red Star.  Having gone toe-to-toe with a well-organised Thornbury side for much of the first half we were undone by a ball over the top which was well-converted by a pacey forward.  It could have been more had it not been from some fine keeping by stand-in goal Al Dennis.  The second half was a more one-sided affair.  Red Star failed to capitalise on their chances and Thornbury made sure of the tie with three more goals without reply.  Their backline held up very well.  It was a game played in a very good spirit, but one slightly overshadowed by the losses of one Red Star player very-early in the first half to a dislocated collar bone, and another in the second half to concussion, both from entirely innocuous situations.  The BRI should have a Red Star on the door.
