Recliners FC vs Fishponds Legends

A great game at BAWA played in good spirit throughout, Recliners managed to go 20 minutes without conceding a poor goal, but finally did when too much time was afforded in the midfield and a good pass picked out a well timed runner who slotted. Another mistake at the back gifted a second and it was 2-0 at the break, Recliners pushed up after HT and had their best spell, which was ended when a direct free kick made it 3-0 against the run of play. Lee scored a great goal from the edge of the area to pull one back, before two moments of sloppy defending at corners allowed Fishponds to race into a 5-1 lead. Their defence then offered up some chances in return, Jim and Matt both lobbed the keeper for 5-3. Late on a poor clearance was returned with interest with the keeper way out pf position. Final score 6-3, good luck Fishponds for the run in.

Recliners FC vs Henleaze Corinthians 45s

In a season where Recliners have frequently started badly, this ranked as the worst start yet, Having given the ball away ten times in the first 3 minutes, we finally helped the Corries striker to get 1 on 1 with the keeper and he tucked the ball away with aplomb. Waking up after ten minutes or so, Recliners began to carve out chance after chance but spurned them all. Will managed to hit the bar, but his radar was seriously astray. At 1-0 we were confident of staying in the game, ‘we must not lose a second goal’ was the word from the side, until just before half time another mistake at the back allowed Corries to double their lead. Kindly the Corries keeper juggled a gentle loosener from Russ into the net straight after HT, before they restored a 2 goal lead with a well worked breakaway goal. Russ then netted a penalty and a trademark sumptuous lob for his hat trick, setting up a tense finale. When Will rounded the keeper and managed to hit the post with the entire goal at his mercy it looked like it wouldn’t be his day, but like all good strikers he kept plugging away and eventually got his reward. Tel added a fifth and Will latched on to a long ball from the keeper to complete the scoring. A game played in great spirit with plenty of good humour and plenty of comedy football to keep everyone smiling.

Recliners FC vs Nailsea Vets 45s

A lovely morning at BAWA marred by the usual problems of no keeper and no ref. With late cry offs and knowing how good Nailsea are, there was some trepidation before kick off. Recliners started brightly though and it was slightly against the run of play when a looping ball spun awkwardly off the pitch and dribbled into the net allowing Nailsea to take the lead after 10. The first of 3 penalties followed soon after. Emu in the Recliners nets hauled the striker down but was relieved to see the pen blasted wide. Recliners grew into an error strewn game, the bobbly pitch making it hard for either side to get control, The Duke equalized after a great counter attack ended with him lofting the ball over the keeper. Just before HT Nailsea regained the lead but there wasn’t a huge amount in it. After the break they started strong and a second pen was awarded for another clear trip. This time it was slotted perfectly. A poor back pass allowed the nippy Nailsea striker in for a fourth, before Recliners were awarded a pen of their own after a mix up at the back for Nailsea. The keeper saved the Duke’s spot kick, but he made amends a few minutes later when he neatly finished from ten yards after a huge gap appeared in the Nailsea defence. There were a few goal mouth scrambles and one off the line, but overall Nailsea were good value for the win in a tight game. A first class attitude was shown throughout by both teams towards each other and the reluctant ref, making this a competitive but properly Corinthian game.
