Background:

The original team started in the late 80s when a group of young lads working at Lloyds Bank Knowle decided, after having a few friendlies, to have a go at starting a Sunday side.  Kevin Watkins and Simmons sent a circular (no email in those days) around the Bristol branches and raised enough interest to enter a side in the Bristol Commercial league, Division 3, under the imaginative name of Lloyds Bank Sunday FC.  Our first ground was at Manor Road in Keynsham. We quickly gained a couple of promotions before spending a couple of seasons in Division1, with a best finish of second.  Lloyds then relocated to Bristol (Canons House) and over time we expanded to 2 sides. We eventually got bored of the Commercial and in  the 94/5 season entered our first team in Division 5 of the Bristol Regional league. This resulted in our only ever Championship as we easily won the league and gained immediate promotion to Div 2.Our reserve side then followed us into the Regional.

By this time we were playing our home games at the Imperial Ground.  Towards the end of the 90s the name of the team was changed to LB Sports. Over time we struggled to raise 2 sides and eventually, and sadly, folded the reserves. By this time we had switched grounds again to Clifton College. We had some decent seasons through the noughties but then struggled more to consistently put out a side. At the end of the 2009 season we eventually bit the bullet and folded the team. It was not all doom and gloom though as there was a phoenix from the flames! Messrs Watkins and Simmons were reunited and decided to form a vets team. Ergo LB Vets was born. We still have links with Lloyds with many of the team either currently or previously employed there. We have always had the ethic of playing fairly but competitively and trying to enjoy our football so joining the Bristol Corinthians league was a no brainer. The appeal of having weeks to recover between games along with rolling subs made the decision even easier. We are proud to continue the LB name (after nearly 40 years) with the aim now to continue the ethic and enjoy our football, provide an outlet for those oldies who want to play on in the twilight of their careers, be competitive but overall have a lot of fun along the way!!!!
