Season: 2022-23
Retainers FC vs Vasco Da South Glos
A close game for 60 plus minutes, Retainers ran out of subs and ran out of legs allowing Vasco to canter home comfortably in the end. Well played to them.
Rapid Dementia vs Nailsea Vets 45’s
Rapid played their first match against a good Nailsea Vets side in what turned out to be a decent Corinthians match. Manager Gregory consulted weather legend Michael Fish before booking Writhlington 3G so the game was on. Unfortunately a number of players turned out to be unfit to start and even the pre match joke couldn’t lift them to a state of readiness!
It was a good opening from Rapid however and an intelligent burst into the box saw Weaver latch onto a through ball from JD before rounding the keeper and slotting home. An early injury saw Rapids only fit sub Morgs take the field and possibly due to a lack of a good warm up or a hangover, he was dispossessed allowing Nailsea to run and score the equaliser. Gregory unusually had a bit of a rant before JD settled nerves by robbing the CB and running in to take a very calmly converted finish.
A early second half tap in from Weaver was followed by a peach of a header from Clive Costner Slocombe to extend the lead before JD hit a sweet left footed shot into the top corner. The final goal came when JD found Gregory with a forward run and his fizzed pass was superbly converted by the waiting Curtis!
Rapid extend their 100% record this season and look forward to the crucial clash against Wick!
St Brendans RFC OB vs Decliners FC
A well contested game at BAWA saw St Brendan’s come out on top. With no keeper and no strikers due to late drop outs, Decliners expected a tough day at the office and conceded two poor goals in the first 15 minutes. After this they grew into the game and gradually took control, creating numerous chances which they were unable to finish. Brendan’s had their moments on the break and stand in keeper Biccy made two superb saves in the second half before Russ finally pulled one back with a great finish from the edge of the box. An equally good goal from the Brendan’s striker effectively put the game to bed, despite Temps scooping the ball over the keeper to make it 3-2 with 10 minutes left. The game was played in a great spirit throughout, a good advert for the Corinthians League.
Mathern Casuals vs Fry Club FC
Frys started the game quickest scoring twice inside the first 10 mins to go 2-0 up through Mark Richards. Mathern came back into the game creating several good chances hitting bar once and just missing with a couple of other good opportunities. It was Frys who end the first half strongest scoring a third just before the break with Mark Richards completing his Hat Trick. The second half opened up and was very even with Mathern continuing to create good changes. However a further 2 strikes during the second period from Paul Magee and a 4th goal from Mark Richards ensured Frys ran out 5-0 winners. A tough but competitive game which was a very enjoyable opening match for Frys.
