West Country Utd Vets vs 78cc
GOOD FUN
Pucklechurch FC Vets vs Lyde Green Vets
After a disappointing result and performance last week we got back on track with a gritty win against a strong Lyde Green side. In an even first half we took the lead when a corner was lobbed in and Ryan nodded home from 2 yards out. Scott blazed over when well placed and Sam fired a free kick over but Lyde also had their moments. The second half we were pinned back in for long periods of time against the wind but scored a second on the counter when Scott raced on to a clearance with an immaculate touch and finish. They got one back from a goalmouth scramble but in the main we kept them at arms length despite all their superior possession.
Filton Ath 35s vs Red Star 35s
Filton exacted revenge for their defeat earlier in the season in what proved to be an ill-tempered game. Red Star had much of the play, and eventually took the lead with a goal that was ruled onside after considerable protest. Further chances followed for Redstar but they failed to capitalise and extend their lead. Some probing forward play for Filton always looked to be threat but it was the introduction of their second half substitute for Filton which changed the game. His marauding runs down the left wing started causing all sorts of problems and eventually helped force an equaliser. Filton continued to press and a Red Star foul just outside the box presented the chance Filton needed, despatching a smartly taken free-kick found the top corner. Red Star pushed back for what would have been a well-deserved equaliser but with the final passes going astray it was not to be their day. But that’s football for you. My thanks to their manager Gary for always being decent to deal with.
Russell Athletic 50s vs Reclinosaurs
A terrific game between two well matched sides at BAWA finished with honors even. Reclinosaurs had the better of the first half, but calamitous defending allowed Russell to twice take the lead. New boy Simon and Kenty both slotted good finishes to take it into HT at 2-2. After the break the Saurs again started brightly and took the lead when Kenty nodded in Justini’s cross, but after that Russell took full control, getting in behind the defence time and again. It looked as though a couple of missed open goals might allow the Saurs to escape with a cheeky win, but with the last action of the game a perfect corner was nodded home for the equalizer. This game was a great advert for vets football, plenty of endeavor, plenty of action, some good football played by both sides and some terrible errors at both ends, but plenty of smiles all round at the conclusion. Good luck to Russell for the run in.
Barely Athletic vs Red Star 45s
Barely were competitive for 60 mins and as usual ran out of subs and puff.
Easton Cowboys vs Yate Town Vets
One nil victory for yate against a strong Easton Cowboys.
