Background:
Since 2006, I had played in a couple of Saturday league teams before choosing to set up a regular 7aside fixture with friends and extended friends, those from the clubs I had played for and friends of theirs. This has gradually grown to a very competitive friendly weekly kick about. Having played a number of tournaments over the years, we’ve gradually reached a point where the want for further competition has prompted our entry to the BCL.

Established in 1992 out the back of an IT centre in Bristol. A couple of years languishing in the informal Avon Civils League were followed by half a dozen in the Bristol Sunday League until it was time to make the step up to the Bristol Casuals League in 2005. Several glory years at the top followed before a slow decline started. But that’s history…this year could be our year…

One of the eight founding teams of the league Easton Monday were formed by has-beens Chris Badley and Andy Purnell in 1995.
After spending early seasons rooted to the bottom of the league The Monday won the 3rd and 2nd Division titles in successive seasons (2003/04 and 2004/05).
They had narrowly missed out on winning the Harry Mottram Cup in 2004, as beaten finalists, and missed out on the double the following season (2005) again, finishing as runners-up. They eventually lifted the trophy in the 2008/09 season.
Since then their ageing (mostly unchanged squad) has begun to show signs of wear and tear resulting in relegation to Div 2 in 2015. Some new blood bought a return to the top flight in 2017/18 season.
In a recent interview Club Chairman Colonel Purnell said “Whilst the new bunch of 35+ year olds strive for further trophies, the glory days for the ‘old guys’ may be behind us which is which is we formed EM95 (the year we helped to create the league) in order to continue in the Corinthian spirit and enjoy our BCL Sundays as long as we can.”

Background: Henleaze Corinthians was the team from which the Casuals League was spawned and still boasts a player from that first game! As the league developed and the team aged, the club expanded into two teams. In 2006, Henleaze Corinthians 45’s were formed to take care of the older/slower players. In 2021 Henleaze Corinthians 50’s were also formed to take care of the ageing limbs of the club.
