Consecutive games against Russell so Nailsea were hoping to make amends for a disappointing league defeat 2 weeks ago. The first half looked relatively even but after 40 minutes Nailsea unlocked the Russell defence with a really well worked move down the left. Darren B and Buzz interchanged neatly and Buzz crossed in for Lee C to collect and fire in from 15 yards out. A second followed within a couple of minutes; Matt G turned sharply on the left side of the box to drill home into the top right corner of the goal. Half time 2-0.

Russel made a good start to the second half and threatened a couple of times in the opening 10 minutes until they finally struck back to make it 2-1. Nailsea almost replied immediately; Lee C crossed to Dave Miles who struck a sweet volley from close range only for the Russell keeper to somehow push the ball onto the bar.

The final 15 minutes didn’t disappoint the neutral spectator. Lee C headed in his second from a Dave Miles cross. Russell caught Nailsea napping at the back and headed in their second to make it 3-2. Straight from the kick off Matt G delivered a superb long ball to Lee C who gathered the ball neatly and slotted home for 4-2 and his well deserved hat trick.

A final mention for the Nailsea gaffer (oh that’s me) making his return at last for a final 10 minute run out!

Two teams who played the match competitively but fairly contested throughout.
