Red Star 35s vs Backwell Ath Vets
Despite the heavy rain the Somerdale Pavilion pitch held up to provide the setting for what has become a bit of a non-local derby fixture. The game remain locked at 0-0 before a lapse of concentration and a cross-come-shot aided by the blustery conditions gave Backwell a 2-0 half-time lead. They added two more early in the second half to effectively put the game out of sight. Red Star forced a corner which was driven low across the box allowing Cammy to stab it home to maintain the fight. A later shot from range clipped the bar, but Backwell continued to break impressively forcing Red Star (me) into committing a few fouls as they tried to prevent it turning into a rout. Backwell more than deserved the win and the game was played in an excellent spirit.
Easton Monday vs Easton Cowboys
EASTON MONDAY MATCH REPORT
We knew that the Cowboys would put up a tough test as they always do. All game – it was a closely fought battle and neither team were allowed much time and space. There were also some very tasty challenges going in but in the most part – they were very fair from both teams. The best chances of the game fell to Jason who had two chances excellently saved off the line by their very good keeper. Jamie also had a header that went just wide of the post.
Nailsea Vets 50s vs Russell Athletic 50s
Our ref cried off at short notice so thanks to our injured striker Lee Cogan for standing in to officiate.
The early Sunday morning deluge had blown away by kick off and although blustery the conditions remained dry for the match. The first half lacked much action in either penalty box although Nailsea controlled the majority of possession. Russell went closest when a short defensive header back to the keeper allowed their striker in only to see his shot hit the left post.
The second half mirrored the first but as Nailsea started chasing the game for a win, gaps started opening up at the back to give Russell more chances. A mix up in the Nailsea defense 30 minutes into the second half gifted Russell the opener with a tap in. Another mistake in midfield let Russell in for a well taken second and the result was in the bag. Nailsea scored a late conciliation goal but it was too little too late.
3 points lost but we hope to be on better form in front of goal against Russell in a couple of weeks for our cup match.
