Red Star 45s vs Recliners FC

A terrific game at Saltford between two well matched sides saw RedStar triumph thanks to clinical finishing. Recliners took the lead with an excellent goal on the break, Gaffers crossing for Miguel, who tucked in the rebound after his first attempt was saved brilliantly by the keeper. RedStar equalized after the Recliners defence was slow to clear and they then took the lead with a firm header from a perfectly executed corner. Recliners took the game to RedStar in the second half, hitting the woodwork twice and drawing 3 more excellent saves from the keeper, but RedStar extended their lead with another bullet header from another top class corner. A full blooded game but played in very good spirit, good luck to RedStar for the rest of the season.

RED STAR MATCH REPORT

A quality exhibition of high level football from two fluorescent teams. Recliners took the lead whilst Red Star were still admiring the first of several worldies from their own keeper. It felt like the visitors might take a firm grip on the game, but Red Star grabbed an equaliser when Gareth tidied up some penalty box ping pong, injecting a surge of confidence back into the home team. Red Star then deployed their secret weapon, hidden for many years, an ability to score great goals from corners. Cammy put them ahead before half time, connecting with Waj’s precision delivery, and then T planted a proverbial bullet into the corner of the net early in the second to put Red Star 3-1 up. A dubious offside call denied them a further cushion, but they also had to ride their luck, with top drawer saves, a bit of woodwork and two utterly heroic (if largely unnoticed) clearances off the line.

A really accomplished performance from Red Star against a very capable Recliners team. Great game played in good Corinthian spirit, well done all.

Cardiff Accies 50s vs Red Star 50s

RED STAR MATCH REPORT

Red Star’s season continued on an upward trajectory with a first ever league win, despite the ravages of Covid reducing them to a bare 11. The Red’s took the initiative from kick off, pushing hard into the Accies half and taking a well deserved lead with two goals from Tahir. Accies pulled one back before half time, but captain Kev’s rousing half time team talk laid a template that the team followed to the letter, 2 quick goals coming soon after half time, putting Red Star in a degree of relative comfort. They pulled further ahead with an acrobatic finish by Si and then Alex scoring with ‘through the eye of a needle’ precision in the midst of a goal mouth scramble.

Accies pulled one back with a late penalty as Red Star’s lack of reserves began to tell, but by this point the result was in no doubt. Thanks to Accies for hosting and for their part in an enjoyable contest in these challenging times. We’re all testing now for cases of 5G after playing under those electricity pylons.

Re-Union vs Reclinosaurs

Reclinosaurs were ruthlessly torn apart by Re-Union at Frys. With no recognized keeper against the best team in the division, this was always going to be a tough assignment and it was made considerably tougher by presenting the first three goals to the opposition through defensive and goalkeeping errors. By half time it was five, but Reclinosaurs continued to battle despite Re-Union being superior in every department. As injuries began to deplete the ‘saurs, the goals continued to flow at regular intervals with Re-Union driving home their advantage without mercy. In the end, the manager’s rather gloomy pre-match prediction that ‘this will probably be about 10-0’ turned out to be spookily accurate. Well played Re-Union on a throughly deserved victory.
