Wick Gerry Hatricks 45sAfter a long break it was great to welcome HC voyager for cup quarter final at the Owls nest. With players missing in key positions due to injury Wick had to shuffle the team around. The game started with both teams playing at a high tempo, however, it was Wick that created some good early opportunities but nothing clear cut. The HC voyager striker made a couple of lively runs which put the Wick back 4 under pressure but failed to hit the target. With 20 minutes gone, Wick took the lead after some nice interplay between Webby and Raggy on edge of box putting Raggy through on goal, which he dispatched. HC voyager raised their game and created a couple of good chances the best, falling to their number 10, who slid the ball wide when only the keeper to beat. Wick got control of the game and a lovely cross by Matty Davis was headed in from close range by Raggy. Wick got a third just before the break, this time Clinton Frampton’s shoot from edge of the box took a nasty bobble which caught the HC voyager keeper out. The 2nd half started, with HC voyager came out with all guns blazing and put Wick under some pressure without testing Tim Cocks in the Wick goal. The game was now very open and both teams started to create some opportunities but it was Wick who made it 4-0. Webby got away a low shot into the bottom corner which was well saved but 60 year old Jeff Britton was on hand to tuck away the re-bound. Cocks was called into action on a few occasions pushing one effort on to the bar and then save while one on one. Wick had the chance to make in 5-0 from the spot when Clinton was fouled in the box but webbys spot kick was well saved. With time running out Wick had one last chance of the game but Matty Davis somehow missed an open goal blazing his header just past the far post. At the final whistle, Mark (Fluff) Faithfull was chuffed with the clean sheet and how the team played. Overall Wick were the stronger team on day but credit to HC voyager they kept going to the end and with a bit of luck in front of goal could have made it difficult for Wick. MoM went to Raggy with 2 well taken goals and worked tirelessly upfront in 1st half and on right in the 2nd half.4Win
