Match Reports
After two postponements in September, Red Star ran out on the hallowed turf of Somerdale Pavilion ready for another glorious cup encounter. The two teams went toe-to-toe in the first half with Red Star showing no signs of early season nerves. But with all team rebuilds it’s inevitable that gaps can appear, and Vasco were able to nick two goals before half time. They added two more early in the second half essentially putting the tie to bed, but Red Star combined neatly to give Paul McIvor a tap-in from close range, making him our current season top scorer. With the minutes ticking on Red Star pressed high to try and get a foothold, but Vasco began to show their class and experience by holding possession and breaking twice on the counter to score two more. They’ll give any team in this league a good game and we wish them all the best for the cup run and the rest of their season. A game played in good spirits and in keeping with the league’s principles.
