Yate Town Vets vs Easton Monday

Yate Town Vets vs Easton Monday

Match Reports

HOME win for Yate in a competitive match held at Yate academy due the recent bad weather.

Fixture was played in good spirit and I think both sides were grateful for the game.

Final score 7 -2 to Yate

EASTON MONDAY MATCH REPORT
Monday competed well in the first 15 mins without creating much. The defensive 4-2-3-1 shape was probably too defensive and failed to get the ball to stick up the pitch. Playing into a low sun made it hard to see what was going on, which is one excuse for our sloppy passing. Yate smelt blood and started to press, and Monday to shit for a while. First goal was a 35 yard hoof that sailed into the top corner. The second was a rocket from 20 yards that would have given Stu (our midfielder standing in for unavailable keepers) a centre-parting if there was anything there to part. Stu told the post match press conference…”When that fella hits it, it really stays hit. He was also just all-round good – a cut above what we normally see in this league.”
Then their normal centre-forward came on, jinked past a couple and slotted home calmly to make it 3-0. Makepeace blocked a cross but it spun inside the near post for 4-. The bench started to think we might not win this one. Then a low cross from the other side was poked just inside the far post by Rocket Man, who timed it well to stay onside. Meanwhile Monday had a few wild slashes at Yate goal but lost all composure as the half went on.
Second half, Monday resorted to their trusty 433 pressed,  picked up the scraps and had a bunch of shots that mostly troubled the gardens behind the pitch. But what the Blues lacked in technique they made up for in spirit, which is worth celebrating given the score. It was a really even half. Arron picked up a couple of well deserved goals. We got out hustled and out muscled. A rarity for us. Formation didn’t help as it condensed us when we needed to make that pitch as big as possible to allow us to move the ball around them (and avoid the muscles). They were disciplined and hungry and deserved the win.
