Away vs Re Union – cup quarter final
I wish we’d managed to arrange a friendly before this cup match. We were rusty, very rusty and within 25 minutes ReUnion had taken a 3-0 lead. Whilst we gifted possession and were second to the challenge for most of their goals, their first was a very well worked interchange of fast neat passing play to open up an opportunity from the edge of the six yard box. A fourth before half time gave us a mountain to climb so the second half was more about pride and from that point of view we delivered. Nailsea finally found a bit of rhythm and started to create opportunities. Two great strikes by Matt Gigg from 20 yards out found the crossbar and tested the ReUnion keeper. Our efforts were rewarded with about 10 minutes remaining. Cottle (never mentioned myself before in a report) swung in a cross from the left side of midfield and Lee Philips met the ball on the volley and fired in from 8 yards out.
Good to be back playing and hope to fit in a couple of friendlies before the season ends. We wish ReUnion the best of luck in the next round of the cup. A very well deserved win from a great bunch of lads.
